Alchemy has its standard Code of Conduct which is related to Environmental, Social Responsibilities, Ethics, Standard Policies & Practices, Health & Safety measures, etc.
Health & Safety Measures at Alchemy Solutions
We at Alchemy provide our employees complete respect and treat them with high dignity to the extent that their decisions are taken into
consideration on priority. Working hours are maintained in the log- in register as per the Karnataka State Shops and Establishment Act.
Their Health and safety is taken care at office premises at any given point of time. We have first Aid Boxes and fire extinguishers in
place with clearly indicated Fire Exits.
All our employees are above 18 years. We confirm Compliance with all local laws regarding health and safety in the work place, such as:
- Ensure that sufficient emergency exits are always available at all times in our office premises.
- Ensure that there are no immediate fire hazards.
- Adequate fire extinguishers or fire alarm are always available in working order. Periodic checks are done to ensure their worthiness,
by a third-party reliable safety assurance body.
- Strategically located and periodically audited smoke detectors are available for everyone’s safety.
Our Go-Green Initiative
We have an Environmental management system with all applicable environmental laws for the services being provided to all of our clients.
We are NOT an ISO 14001 certified company, but we are in a process of bagging the certification.
Please note Alchemy Solutions is a software services training company and does most of its work on computers or laptops. To save energy,
our HR and Administration Teams have put in place practices and guidelines to be followed by each and every employee. A copy of this
has been circulated to, and is part of the welcome kit for each and every employee. We also have put up relevantly summarized directives
at each of our employee workstations, classrooms and prominent areas.
Given below is a summarized version of Practices and Guideliness which are part of our Go-Green Initiative:
- Power Off the socket points when not in use. This is also re-checked and confirmed to, by office support staff, as part of their
routine process.
- By adopting good energy management practices, we conserve on power by having replaced all our incandescent bulbs with fluorescent tubes
and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). This has cut our lighting energy costs by nearly half. The reduction in waste heat has also help
decrease the need for air conditioning. We use high-pressure sodium lamps for outdoor lighting which also help save on power. At couple
of points, we have even gone in for dimmer switches to help increase our energy efficiency.
- We also conserve energy by maintaining a centralized air conditioning system with controlled exhaust points to ensure that the air-flow
can be switched off, when not in use. All windows are covered by sun-control films to help reduce the head and radiation. Most windows
are thermally sealed thus reducing our air-conditioning energy usage. Shades are provided for the condenser units without obstructing
airflow currents. All air-conditioners are regularly maintained under a maintenance contract from a reputed service company. All doors
have been fitted with automatic door-closers to help control air-flow into our facilities.
- We use day lighting from windows or skylights, instead of electrical lighting, whenever and wherever possible. For example, our training
center is equipped with an open-air cafeteria, thus conserving on lighting and air-conditioning.
- Since we are IT Training Services Company, all our work is done only on computers and laptops. All our systems are equipped with energy-star
compliant monitors, LCDs/LED screens and Printers. All computers are further configured for Power Management using the Operating System’s
Control Panel to put the system into a Standby or Hibernate Mode automatically, when not in use for longer durations. Unnecessary systems
in the classroom are kept switched off. In fact, the computer systems in our classrooms are switched on only 15-20 minutes before classes
are scheduled to begin, and our participants are advised to power down the systems, before leaving. This is validated by our administrative
IT Staff.
- As a policy, we use e-mail instead of sending out memos and faxes.
- We use shared LAN printers instead of individual printers. Wherever appropriate, we use ink jet printers, since they consume 90% less energy
than laser printers. As a policy, printouts are taken out on both the sides to ensure maximum utilization. By default, the printers are
configured to print in Draft Mode, thus saving on ink. And Toner Cartridges are recycled, rather than replaced.
- We have also made it a policy to use only recycled paper for most of our printing needs.
- We at Alchemy are very particular on waste management also. The employees make sure all the waste papers are either recycled as Rough Papers
or are thrown or shredded in the waste paper basket which is then cleared out to paper-recycling plants. Our housekeeping team help keep a
check of the same, as part of their end-of-day routine. Since we are not into any production related work, we do not have any major waste at
our office premises. Alchemy Solutions is a Training Services Company incubating and transferring knowledge to our customers through
Corporate Training and Consulting Services.
- All employees, including the students at our Training Centers, are advised to use the staircase rather than the lift, especially while
coming down.
- Employees and our Consultants pro-actively also opt for car-pooling whenever possible.
- All company owned vehicles also undergo regular checkups and Emission Control Tests.
- Our housekeeping team at the office & our training centers, consume only organic and eco-friendly cleaning products.
- Water conservation has also been a moot point as part of Go-Green initiatives. Apart from recycling waste water from our cafeteria to water
the plants, we have recently successfully implemented Rain Water Harvesting at our Training Center.
- An extremely exhaustive audit verification process is being put in place currently, which will help us better understand our energy and
resources consumption, thus helping us better manage and reduce our outlay.
Alchemy’s HR’s Role in Promoting Corporate Social Responsibility
Creating a culture of change and responsibility starts with the HR.
We have found that getting our young employees, who are already environmentally conscious, excited about fresh Corporate Social Responsibility
initiatives is a great way to begin. A committed set of employees who infuse enthusiasm for such programs enable friendly competition and
recognition programs.
Employer brands are being eroded and the once sacred trust that employees had with stable pensions, defined benefits and lifelong jobs, are
being replaced with pay-for-performance and adjustment to new learning goals. In this environment, we have found that Corporate Social
Responsibility can go a long way in rehabilitating the employer brand with potential new hires and society at large. It can help defeat the
image that most general public have - that corporate objectives are rooted in single-minded profit at the expense of the employees, society,
and the environment.
Social and community connections are encouraged by the HR team at Alchemy Solutions, giving our employees permission to involve the company
in meaningful ways with the community, through:
- Company matches to employee charitable contributions;
- Community programs and volunteer days;
- Corporate sponsorship of community events; and
- Encouraging employees to participate in run-for-a-cause, blood donation camps, etc.
Celebrating Our Corporate Social Responsibility Successes is important to sustain the momentum of any good CSR program. Involving company leaders, and praising the success of these initiatives, gives the program a real meaning. We have found that in the rapidly expanding global workplace, the celebration of these successes not only drives the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, but also allows sound corporate HR practices to enable them. Additionally the publicity about these successes creates a mutual understanding of the cultures within the company.
